If you haven't read part 1, there you go : High Fever - P1
Back on the ship, present time... "Shush!" the woman hastily whispered. "I just saved your brother's life. If one person had all that high a temperature, he would have died! By dividing him, the fever has been divided onto four. He is not safe yet. There is a herb that can be found in the forest we are heading towards. As long as all the four clones of your brother are able to eat it, he will survive, as good as new. But they don't have too long without the herbs. 20 days, max. Are you in?"
My heart was beating. After everything that happened, I badly needed a person to put things right for me. But I didn't know if I could trust her. Her face was still creepily calm, but it didn't look threatening or menacing. Instead, there was weirdly a hint of worry and eagerness.
A weird combination, I know.
Should I trust her?
I didn't have any other option.
It was worth a try.
"All right.. But..." I stammered.
"Leave everything to me. Just come along and keep the clones safe with your mother", she said.
We got off the cruise after a few hours. We had to go to a small cottage we had rented for our vacation. It was not very deep inside the woods. Just a 15 minute ride. We got off the ship. With all the other passengers in the cruise. All of us had cottages in the woods. There were carriages to take us there.
Each family had one carriage. Ours was quite full, considering there were two adults (considering me an adult) and four kids. The calm-creepy woman said that she would come by foot as it was quite a nice walk through the woods.
I was starting to trust her.
She was just trying to help.
Sometimes, people are good. Not often, but sometimes.
Our carriage started to move. Quite slowly due to the roots underneath us. There was just enough space for the carriage.
The woman was out of sight. She walked slowly. Looking around everywhere. Touching trees and stones. Feeling them. If you looked closely, you would be able to see tears in her eyes.
She didn't wear many accessories.
But you could see a necklace, with a single emerald stone hanging from it.
She touched it.
Getting strength from it.
"I'm back."
To be continued...
